Draft: pending Texas-attorney review

Privacy Policy

Last updated June 24, 2026 · Texas only, for now

This is a plain-English explanation of what Recoverly collects, how we use it, the companies that help us run the service, and how long we keep your information.

Recoverly is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Information and documents are provided for self-help purposes only.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to check your tax-proration gap, prepare your demand letter, and run your account.

Account details
Your email address and a password. We never store the password itself, only a one-way scrypt hash of it. When you sign in we set a secure, HttpOnly session cookie so you stay logged in; it expires after 30 days.
Your case details
What you enter in the intake wizard, including your name and mailing address, the builder's name and address, the property address, your closing date, the tax year, the dollar figures from your closing and tax bill, and whether you claim a homestead exemption.
Documents you upload
Your Closing Disclosure and property-tax bill. They are encrypted in transit, stored privately under file names we generate, and only your account can open them.
The free check
The free tax-gap check uses three numbers: your closing date, your annual tax amount, and the seller credit. We calculate your result and return it right away. We do not save these numbers, and the free check never asks for your name or email.
A referral cookie
If you arrive through a campaign link, we set a small cookie that records only the campaign label, never any personal information. It is HttpOnly and expires after 30 days.
Standard technical information
Like any website, our servers receive basic request information, including your IP address, which we use temporarily to keep the service secure and to limit abuse; we do not retain that request IP for analytics or use it to build advertising profiles. Separately, if you respond to a printed campaign we mail you, our mail provider records that interaction, such as a scan or click, so we can measure the campaign; we receive the engagement event but do not store the IP address it came from.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • run your free check and validate the numbers you give us,
  • prepare your Texas demand letter and, when you direct us to, mail it on your behalf as your mailing agent,
  • create and secure your account,
  • detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and
  • optionally cross-check your uploaded documents with an AI service to catch data-entry mistakes before you rely on the result.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Service providers

We rely on a small set of trusted companies to run Recoverly. Each one processes your information only to provide its service to us, under its own security and privacy commitments. None of them is permitted to sell your data or use it for its own purposes. They are service providers, not buyers of your data.

Service providers Recoverly uses, what each does, the information it receives, and when it applies.

Services we use or may use for reliability and analytics

These help us keep the service stable and understand how it is used. They are privacy-minimized and may not be active in every environment. We will keep this policy current as we turn them on:

  • Error monitoring (for example, Sentry): captures technical error details, such as an error message and the operation that failed, to help us fix problems. We remove your email address from these reports before they are sent, and they never include your uploaded documents.
  • Product and website analytics: measures aggregate usage and traffic, limited to identifiers and amounts, never the contents of your documents.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

  • Uploaded documents: our policy is to delete your Closing Disclosure and tax bill within 12 months after your case is closed.
  • Account and case records: kept while your account is active. Expired login sessions are cleared automatically.
  • Free-check inputs: not stored at all.

You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time. See your rights below.

Your rights and contact

You can:

  • see the case details and documents in your account at any time,
  • correct your information by editing your case or account,
  • download your documents, and
  • ask us to delete your account and the data tied to it.

To make a request, or if you have any privacy question, email us at support@gorecoverly.com and we will help.

If we contacted you by mail

Some people first hear from Recoverly through a postcard or letter we mail, before they ever create an account. If that is you, here is what we hold and how long we keep it. This section is about people we contact by mail, not account holders.

Where your details came from
Your name, mailing address, and basic property information come from public county records, such as appraisal-district and deed filings. We use them to estimate whether a property-tax proration gap may exist and, if so, to mail you about it. The dollar figure on the mailer is an estimate, not a bill or a legal claim.
If you respond to the mailer
If you scan a code or follow a link from the mailer, our mail provider records that interaction, such as the device type and the time, and we use it only to measure the campaign. We do not store the IP address it came from.
How long we keep it
Our policy is to delete those response records within about 12 months. If you never respond and never create an account, our policy is to remove your name and mailing address from our prospect records within about 24 months. If you do start a case, your information is kept under the account and case rules above instead.
Your choices
You can ask us to stop mailing you and to delete the information we hold about you at any time. Email us at support@gorecoverly.com and we will take care of it.

Texas-only scope

Recoverly is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Information and documents are provided for self-help purposes only.
